Do you have more questions about travel insurance plans, benefits, and upgrades? No problem! Travelex is here to help.
The Preview Plan will cover the primary traveler and up to 10 traveling companions named on the same travel reservation. Coverage amounts shown are shared among the insured and traveling companions and are paid to the primary traveler listed on the policy.
Our trip cancellation coverage can’t cover absolutely everything. We can only pay you back if you need to cancel your vacation because of an event that is eligible for coverage.
So, what does our travel insurance cover for trip cancellation? The best way to check all the eligible reasons is to read the description of coverage for your chosen plan. You can access the description of coverage either by getting a quote online, or if you’ve already bought a policy, you’ll find it in your confirmation of coverage email.
It’s important to know that for coverage to apply, the reason for your trip cancellation must:
- Be outside of your control or the control of your family member, traveling companion, or business partner.
- Prevent you, the person traveling with you, or your business partner from taking the trip.
- Occur while your coverage is active and be one of the unexpected events listed in your policy.
Good to know: If you cancel your trip because of an unexpected illness or injury, you must get an exam and letter from a doctor noting that you’re unable to travel, or that your nontraveling family member is in a life-threatening condition and needs your care.
Our optional rental car damage upgrade can offer reimbursement of up to $35,000 ($100 deductible in CT, IN, KS, MO, MT, NY & VT) for accidental damage caused by the following:
- Collision
- Theft
- Vandalism
- Windstorm
- Fire
- Hail
- Flood
- Stolen rental car
- Any cause outside of your control while renting the car
If you rent a standard car with an original price under $75,000, we could reimburse you for one of the following covered accidental damage expenses (minus the $100 deductible in CT, IN, KS, MO, MT, NY & VT) up to $35,000:
- The cost of repairs and rental charges during repair.
- The actual cash value of the car.
Important: For our primary coverage to apply, you must have a valid driver’s license, be listed on the rental agreement, and be legally and financially responsible for the damages.

At Travelex, our plans have review periods during which you can cancel your policy. If, within the first 21 days after purchasing a plan, you decide you no longer want your policy, and you have not departed or filed a claim, then we can refund your policy cost. The review period varies by state.
